Porto Taverna is a bay protected from north-east winds by Tavolara, an island of over 500m from sea level, and by the wild island Molara. It's only about 2 miles from Olbia and it's a natural port for the boats, together with the near Cala Girgolu.
The beach of Porto Taverna is the most beautiful and the biggest beach (1 km of sandy shore) of Loiri Porto S. Paolo city and it gets all the services: Tonino Bua offers beach services, reantal craft, charter, excursions and entertainment on the beach. Good snaks, food and music at Bar/restaurants 12.1 on the beach. Da Marco restaurant offers fish lunch and dinner. In Monte Petrosu (500m) typical meals at L'Ea Cana restaurant. Walks and excursions are possible in the surroundings: wonderful rocks and cavities in the beaches of Elefante and La Tartaruga.
Capo Coda Cavallo(2km) with its 10 beaches to be discovered. The most famous is Brandinchi, called Tahiti is one of the nicest beaches of Sardinia, with gorgeous sightseeing. In Porto S. Paolo (2km) you can find supermarkets, fish-shops, motorcycle rent, bicycles...etc. Ferryboats to Tavolara island, where it's possible to do unforgettable excursions or have some relax in the beach where there's the restaurant of the king of Tavolara. In S. Teodoro (5 km) beyond the clubs and the nigth life, there's the longest north Sardinia beach, La Cinta, where there 're exclusive areas under the juniper shadows reachable with a boat or walking.
The ponds in the area between Porto Taverna and S. Teodoro are the destination of ornithologists because of the presence of many species: for example the pink flamingos, which are standing now. The best periods for holydays are from the 15th of September to the 15th of June. How to get to Porto Taverna From Olbia (Costa Smeralda Airport; Port): turn into SS125 trunk road (S.Teodoro airport direction), 2 km after Porto S. Paolo, at the traffic circle, turn left after Camping Tavolara and go ahead til the end of the road (It takes about 15 minutes).
